The National Conference of the Development Action Group (DAG) took place from 11-13 November 2010 in Cape Town. Urban LandMark co-sponsored the event, which brought together 40 international and local experts on urban land management, democratic urban governance, land value capture and community-centred and medium-density housing to share experiences and lessons in realising the right to the city.
The Development Action Group, in collaboration with the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies in the Netherlands, hosted mini-courses on value capture and land management during October 2010. A number of national and international experts participated, including Urban LandMark's Mark Napier (who gave a presentation on challenges and opportunities in managing land, creating land value and generating revenue), and Rob McGaffin (Urban Landmark) and Mercy Brown-Luthango (African Centre for Cities) who gave a joint presentation entitled 'Value creation?....Value capture?'
The South African Planning Institute recently hosted its fourth Planning Africa Conference in Durban.
