2012 Urban LandMark Conference

Speaker biography: Lauren Royston

Lauren is tenure theme coordinator at Urban LandMark, a UK government-funded programme in South Africa which focuses on making urban land markets work better for the poor. She is a development planner by training and is based at Development Works, an urban development consultancy in Johannesburg.

Lauren currently focuses on urban land tenure security and community based work in Johannesburg's inner city. She supports the former residents in the Olivia Road case, who took the City of Johannesburg to court over their attempted eviction, in their relocation circumstances. Lauren worked for many years on municipal planning, especially on housing sector planning. She had a long association with Leap, a voluntary collaboration on urban and rural tenure security.
